General Information
The tremendous reduction over the last
decade in the cost of digital systems has led to an
explosive growth in the use of computers and communication.
Today it is the fastest growing discipline.
The Department of Computer Engineering
provides a programme to develop the required skills
and competence to design and implement computer systems
and networks. The core courses of the computer engineering
curriculum lay the foundation necessary for all computer
engineers. A set of elective courses allows the students
to specialise in areas of their choice.
Computer Engineering curriculum focuses
on the areas of digital systems, computer architecture
and design, microprocessors, integrated circuit technology,
data communication, computer networks and the elementary
and advanced languages.
In addition, equal importance is attached
to the study of computer science providing a coherent
view on the understanding of the interdependencies of
hardware and software components and their interfaces.
Computers are continuously improving and
becoming less expensive and more efficient every day.
On the other hand job opportunities for computer engineers
are diversifying into various domains such as data communication
and computer networks, computer and microcomputer engineering,
computer and electronic engineering.
Çankaya University pays special attention
to this diversification, aiming to furnish its students
with the vision of the year 2000 and beyond.
Philosophy:
Via its course programme, the Department aims to teach
most challenging and most promising technologies of
our age. The programme has been devised with the following
considerations in mind:
- To reflect the trust and the trends
in computer technology,
- To provide skills that match the markets
needs for manpower,
- To follow international standard curriculum
in the field,
- To provide adequate depth in the students
major field,
- To provide adequate breath via technical
and major electives.
Staff Composition:
Computer Engineering Department has highly qualified
faculty members who are recognised internationally with
their teaching expertise and research work. The department
always looks for high calibre local and foreign teaching
staff to employ in order to raise the level of the education
in the country. The departments top priority is
to establish a good academic reputation among the other
computer departments in Turkey.
Undergraduate Program
Freshman Year
The freshman programme in the Computer Engineering Department
is a common freshman curriculum in any engineering department
in the world. This will help students select their major
study area at the beginning of the sophomore year.
Common Core Subjects
Common core subjects include basic sciences, mathematics,
English, computer science, digital logic, electronics,
data structures, discrete structures, mathematical logic,
computer organisation and programming, system software;
microprocessor based systems and computer networks.
Requirements for
Graduation
Students who complete all the courses in their programme
with a cumulative GPA 2 or better qualify for a BSc
degree in Computer Engineering. For graduation 137
credit hour is quired, this total includes 21
credit-hour of minimum 7 elective courses.
